Staying only two nights in Singapore on our way to Vietnam, my friends and I had a timeframe of less than 48 hours to do and see as much as we could in this wonderful city. We stayed in a hostel in Chinatown, which we found was a great area to base ourselves, either walking or catching the metro to where we wanted to go. We all absolutely loved Singapore as it was such a beautiful, clean city with lush greenery everywhere. Here is the lowdown on what we got up to while we were there! What are your favourite things about Singapore?
Marina Bay Sands Sky Bar
This rooftop bar is located at the top of the most iconic building in Singapore. We dressed up nicely and went just before sunset, giving us a chance to see Singapore from above at both day and night time. We also obviously ordered a Singapore Sling each, which only set us back an arm and a leg! Just kidding, they are quite expensive (almost $30AUD), but what you are really paying for is the view.
Located in Chinatown, this street contains hawker type stalls and restaurants selling specialty dishes, which are influenced by Singapore’s different Asian cultures. The food stalls are very affordable and the street has a great atmosphere, so we ended up eating here more than once!
Maxwell Hawker Centre
These food centres are where the locals tend to eat, which will give you a real taste of Singapore. We went to the Maxwell Road Hawker Centre, but unfortunately we went too late in the day so we weren’t sure what was good to eat and many of the food stalls were starting to close. We did get some delicious juices from there though. Each stall has a health rating from grade A to D, which indicates how hygienic the premises is.
Cloud Forest and Flower Dome
Part of the gorgeous Gardens By The Bay, these indoor structures are filled with beautiful flowers and greenery. The Cloud forest even has an indoor waterfall! I highly recommend exploring these beautiful gardens, as it was definitely a highlight of our trip, and super insta-worthy too! Along with the gardens by the bay, you could easily spend a whole day exploring all the beautiful greenery, however we only had a couple of hours.
This stretch of road is Singapore’s main shopping street and holds everything from high-end couture to more affordable stores such as H&M and Forever 21… can you guess which ones we shopped at?
This lively, colourful hub is lined with lots of bars and restaurants, which have many different cuisines to choose from. We ate at an Indonesian restaurant, which ended up being quite expensive after a service charge was added on at the end. It is definitely not a cheap area, but has a buzzing atmosphere at night.
This is a really cool area to explore with many cheap markets, making it a great place to pick up souvenirs. There are also a few attractions to check out such as temples.
The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands
This luxury shopping centre is located at the bottom of the Marina Bay Sands and is open until late. Along with shopping and eating, you can even take a gondola ride on the river that runs through the mall. Pretty cool hey?!
